If you have a road traffic accident that is not your fault then the insurers of the person responsible for the car accident should pay you compensation for your pain and suffering you have incurred as a result of the accident. The most common injuries caused are whiplash, but claims can be made for any physical injury caused in the accident. These include broken limbs, bruises, or psychological injuries.
You can also claim loss of earnings where the accident meant you could not work, cost of repairs to your damaged vehicle and expenses like medical bills, travel expenses and damaged items.
When must I claim?
There are some exceptions but generally you have 3 years from the date of the accident to take your claim to court, after that time you will not be able to make a claim. If you are under 18 the 3 years runs from the date you reach your 18th birthday.
How much compensation will I receive?
The amount of compensation you receive depends on various things, on the type of injury you suffered, how long you had your symptoms for and when you are expected to recover. In addition to compensation for injuries you will be able to claim expenses like travel costs, medical bills and loss of earnings where you have not been able to work as a result of the accident
