If for example you slip on a wet floor or trip as a result of an uneven pavement and it can be shown that the owners/occupiers of the property have not taken care to make sure you are safe then you can make a claim for compensation.
What should I do?
Let the owners/occupiers of the premises know that you have had an accident and if possible make sure the accident is recorded. Get details of any witnesses and keep all relevant paperwork and receipts for any expenses.
When must I claim?
There are some exceptions but generally you have 3 years from the date of the accident to take your claim to court, after that time you will not be able to make a claim. If you are under 18 the 3 years runs from the date you reach your 18th birthday
How much compensation will I receive?
The amount of compensation you receive depends on various things, on the type of injury you suffered, how long you had your symptoms for and when you are expected to recover. In addition to compensation for injuries you will be able to claim expenses like travel costs, medical bills and loss of earnings where you have not been able to work as a result of the accident.
